BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Dieck Assad took office as president of UDEM in 2009, after serving the same institution as vice president for higher education. Before that, he was director of the Graduate School of Business Management at the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (Monterrey Tech).
In addition to his administrative work, Dr. Dieck Assad has taught industrial engineering and business and has worked in research, consulting, and educational programs for companies that include Cementos Chihuahua, Cemex, Coca-Cola, Corning, Ericsson, FEMSA, Gamesa, Grupo GBM Atlántico, Grupo Industrial Saltillo, Hospital San José, Monterrey Tech, Puentes Consortium, Renault, Sintec, Sony, Ternium Hylsa y Trane, Thunderbird, and Vitro. He also acted as logistical advisor in regional competitiveness for the Nuevo León State Government.
He has also been a member of the board of the Private Mexican Institutions of Superior Education Federation, Universia, Campus Compact, Nuevo Leon Reconstruction State Council, Nuevo León Values and Legality Culture Council, Nuevo León Automotive Cluster, Coparmex Nuevo León, Ibero-American Institute of Investigation and Support of Intellectual Disability, North Zone Banorte, and National Financial.
He holds a PhD in industrial engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and has served on the faculties of the University of Missouri-Columbia’s School of Industrial Engineering, Saint Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas, and Monterrey Tech.
Monterrey university (udem)
The Universidad de Monterrey is a private institution of Catholic inspiration founded in 1969 by local religious groups. In 2012, the university listed 11,673 students, of whom 2,998 were in preparatory high school; 7,470 in undergraduate programs; 409 in graduate programs; and 796 in nursing and specialist medical courses. Forty one percent of students receive some form of grant aid.
In all, there are 39 undergraduate programs, 5 advanced certificates, 11 postgraduate programs and 35 medical specialties. The business school postgraduate programs include one focusing on administration of family companies.
UDEM operates international exchange programs with 778 institutions in 67 countries, including the Rice University; University College, London; and Université Panthéon-Assas, Paris II. The campus is located at San Pedro Garza García on the western edge of the Monterrey metropolitan area.
The university operates an outdoor leadership and team-building center and has a campus radio station run by journalism students.
This year the university opened the Centro Roberto Garza Sada de Arte, Arquitectura y Diseño, a unique space in Latin America designed by Tadao Ando, winner of the Pritzker Prize in 1995. Through the Centro Roberto Garza Sada UDEM promotes the education and development of creative talent, as well as the creation and conservation of art, architecture and design within an advanced technology and innovation context.
