BIOGRAPHY
Hector Rangel Domene became president of BCP Securities Mexico in November 2013. BCP Securities Mexico is a joint venture with BCP Securities, LLC, a U.S. investment bank specialized in emerging markets.
Domene began his professional career in 1972 as account manager with Citibank Mexico, and by 1975 he had been promoted to vice president in charge of the corporate bank. In 1978, he joined Banco Somex, S.A., as chief credit officer and assumed responsibilities as head of the Credit and Business Development division after the company’s merger with Banco Mexicano, S.A. In this capacity, he positioned Banco Mexicano Somex, S.A., as the leader in Mexico in syndicated loans and trade financing.
In 1982, Domene joined Petroleos Mexicanos as chief of staff to the general director, and in 1984, he became chief financing officer, in charge of all financial needs and refinancing of Pemex’s external debt, a position he held until August 1987.
In late 1987, Domene founded his own consulting firm, Rangel Domene y Asociados, S.C., which participated in arranging the financing of several important infrastructure projects and in the privatization of some state-owned enterprises, among them Bancomer, S.A.
Domene joined Grupo Financiero Bancomer in 1991 as head of the Corporate and Investment Banking division, and later occupied different executive positions throughout his long career at the bank. He became chairman of the board of directors in October 2004 and held that position until he took early retirement in late 2008.
From March 2000 until April 2002, Domene was president of the Mexican Bankers Association, and from June 2002 to July 2004, he was president of the Business Coordinating Council, the most relevant private-sector organization in Mexico.
In January 2009, President Felipe Calderón appointed Domene as chief executive officer of Nacional Financiera and Banco Nacional de Comercio Exterior, two of the most important development banks in Mexico. Domene was a member of the president’s cabinet until December 2012.
Throughout his career, Domene has been a member of the board of directors of a number of companies, including Fresnillo PLC; Afore Profuturo GNP; Grupo Industrial Maseca, S.A.; Gruma, S.A.; Bancomer, S.A.; Aeroméxico, S.A.; and Frisa Industrias, S.A.; as well as of many subsidiaries of Grupo Financiero Bancomer, Somex, Nafin, Bancomext, and Pemex. He has also served as a trustee of the Franz Mayer Museum, Universidad Iberoamericana, Museo Interactivo de Economía, and Save the Children Mexico; as treasurer of Federacion Ecuestre Mexicana; and as a member of the Institute of International Finance’s Crisis Prevention Committee in Emerging Markets, in Washington, DC.
Domene was born in Monterrey, Mexico, on August 3, 1947. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from Purdue University and his master’s in business administration from Stanford University. He has participated in several finance and administration seminars in San Francisco, New York, and Tokyo, as well as the energy seminar at Oxford University.
