BIOGRAPHY
Joaquín Zevallos is a former government minister and former honorary consul of Australia in Guayaquil who is now the executive director of the Guayaquil Regional Economic Development Agency (ADREG).ADREG is an independent private not-for-profit agency that brings together representatives of the private sector, city hall, trade associations, NGOs, educational institutions and representatives of civil society with the goal of promoting economic and social development to make Guayaquil and its surrounding area more competitive and attractive for foreign investment. Working with the Catholic University of Santiago de Guayaquil and the Stratega BDS consulting firm, the agency has identified and analyzed 10 target sectors: manufacturing; fishing and aquaculture; transportation, logistics and communications; agro-industry; construction; tourism; commerce; education; bio-products and financial institutions. Zevallos attended primary school in London,England and secondary school in Quito and Guayaquil before going to Stanford University, California. He has studied business management with specialization in insurance and reinsurance, held the post of Minister of Foreign Trade Industry, Fishing and Competition, Minister of Productivity and he has presided a number of leading business organizations including the National Federation of Chambers of Commerce and the Guayaquil Chamber of Commerce.
