BIOGRAPHY
Peruvian lawyer Veronica Zavala is General Manager of the Country Department Andean Group at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), heading up a team of over 100 professionals located in Washington DC and the capitals of the five Andean nations: Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela. With a law degree from Pontificia Universidad Católica in Peru and a master’s in public administration from Harvard, Zavala started her public service career in Peru. She became Project Manager for public-private partnerships in transportation infrastructure and telecommunications in 1997. Subsequent appointments included Coordinator of a Presidential taskforce to improve public sector modernization and Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications in the period 2006-2008. Zavala joined the Board of Executive Directors of the IDB and the Inter-American Investment Corporation in 2008 as Executive Director for Colombia and Peru; moved to the World Bank as Sector Manager for the public sector and governance unit for Latin America and the Caribbean; then moved over to the IDB as director for Andean countries in August 2011.
